Where Every Life Matters
Fluffington Manor is home to a living community of birds, each with a name, a personality, relationships and a place in its continuing history.
What began with a small number of birds gradually grew into several connected aviary environments, shaped around the different needs and lives of those within them. Families formed, young birds grew up, partnerships endured, new residents arrived and others left behind stories that remain part of the Manor.
The birds have never been an interchangeable flock. They are parents, partners, brothers, sisters, friends and distinct little characters. Some are confident and commanding; others are gentle, cautious, curious, mischievous or quietly content in a familiar corner. Knowing them individually changes how their lives are seen—and how their absence is felt.
I began documenting them to preserve those individual lives and the moments that might otherwise disappear: the relationships, recoveries, daily rituals, unexpected friendships and small events that make Fluffington Manor what it is.
This page brings those stories together—celebrating the residents who live here today, remembering those who came before them, and following the life of the Manor as it continues to grow.
Every day brings new activity to Fluffington Manor: friendships forming, families growing, favourite places being claimed, small disagreements unfolding and individual personalities making themselves known.
This section will become home to short narrated stories inspired by those real lives and events. Using footage from inside the Manor, each episode will follow its named residents through stories that are grounded in what is happening, lightly embellished through narration, and connected by the continuing life of Fluffington Manor.

Fluffington Manor is currently home to 84 birds. Every bird born into or welcomed to Fluffington Manor becomes a Bootie. Different species, different families and wildly different personalities, but one shared surname and one place in the Manor’s story. Meet those living here today, discover the generations and relationships formed along the way, and remember the much-loved little lives that will always remain part of the family.

Around the Manor
Fluffington Manor is the name of the whole little estate and everyone who passes through it: 84 resident birds, Coco Soota, visiting cats, wild birds at the edges, and me, keeping the whole operation moving. Within the Manor are several distinct spaces, each built around how its residents actually live.
Siesta World Extraordinaire
Every night at around 10pm, the budgies retire to Siesta World Extraordinaire. Their small, cosy sleeping quarters include natural perches, nest boxes, toys, a hammock, food, water, greens and a bath. At approximately 8am, the doors open and they emerge to begin another day of free-ranging adventures.
Grand Central Station
Part dining station, part recreation stop and part hospital, Grand Central Station is used throughout the day by both the budgies and scarlet-chested parrots. It also becomes a private recovery space whenever a resident from Bootie Borough is injured, unwell or needs closer care, often with a trusted friend brought along for company.
Bootie Borough
Home to 75 birds, Bootie Borough is the largest neighbourhood within Fluffington Manor. The main deck aviary includes sheltered and sunlit areas, natural branches, plants, logs, around 30 nests and nest boxes, multiple feeding stations and separate spaces for residents who occasionally need time away from the flock. Winter covers and eight heaters keep everyone warm through the colder months.
Emerald Perch Paradise
Emerald Perch Paradise is the nightly retreat of Nelly and Ralphie. They enter at around 10pm and emerge again at 8am, with perches, food, water, cuttlefish, seed blocks and a nest box inside. During daylight hours, however, the budgies frequently take possession of it and treat it as one of their own favourite destinations.
